12 Do’s and Don’ts for a Successful Hair Transplant

What everybody would ask from a hair transplant operation would be the maximum efficiency in achieving the desired results. But even if the doctors and the hair transplant clinic does everything perfectly healthy, there are a couple of things that you should do and some things that you should not do. Here are some of the dos and don’ts for having a successful hair transplant.

1- Do not get your scalp wet

Being extra careful is just a temporary thing about in the first days after the hair transplant surgery. So, try not to swim or shower until your doctor tell you that you can.

2- Sleep upright

Try to keep your head up while you are sleeping. You can use double pillows for elevating your head. That will reduce the swelling on your scalp.

3- Do not scratch the scabs

You are going to have tiny scabs on your scalp after the hair transplant surgery. They will naturally fall after about ten days. If you force them to fall by scratching them hard, you may damage the transplanted grafts.

4- Use antibiotics

Probably your doctor will prescribe you antibiotics to use after the surgery. It will help you to recover faster and reduce the risk of having infections on your scalp.

5- Do not smoke cigarettes

Avoid smoking cigarettes for a few days after the operation. Because smoking is going to make the healing process take much longer than it usually should.

6- Be gentle while you comb your hair

When you brush your hair, make sure that you do it gently and that you are not damaging the grafts.

7- Do not dye your hair

It is a bad idea to dye your hair right after the hair transplant because you will damage the grafts and maybe even risk an infection.

8- Apply the shampoo with your fingers

When your doctors tell you that you can wash your hair, make sure that you do it gently with your fingers and not with your nails. Your nails can damage the grafts.

9- Do not use medications without consulting your doctor

Before you take any medication after the surgery, make sure you report it to your doctor to see if it is safe. Because some medicines may cause complications after the surgery.

10- Take some rest

It is vital that you not to get yourself tired after the surgery. Therefore, you should avoid anything that can get you tired, and take some rest for about three days after the surgery.

11- Do not wear hats

Wearing anything that will touch your scalp is risky for the operation. So, do not put on any hats or berets for the first three days after the surgery.

12- Keep in touch with your clinic

In case you experienced any complications, or you only want to find answers to some questions, it is a good idea to stay in touch with your doctor. That will allow you to solve your problems any time you need help.
