Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a hair transplant procedure performed to restore the thinning hair associated with male and female baldness. The FUE hair transplant technique is less invasive compared to the traditional Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) method and eliminates the need for linear incisions or strips. This procedure gives permanent, satisfactory results and is now offered in our clinic for men and women around the world.
Cost of hair transplant treatment
The total cost is determined by a number of factors, including the number of transplants transplanted and the number of sessions required to achieve the desired results. You will be given an estimated offer for the cost of your treatment after being evaluated by one of the plastic surgeons certified by the board at our clinic.
We accept all major credit cards, personal checks. We also accept many funding options to help you with this process.
Which areas can be treated with FUE hair transplants?
FUE hair transplants are usually performed on the scalp. However, it can also treat areas of hair loss or thinning hair on other parts of the body, such as the face, arms, chest and legs. Various treatment areas can be discussed during the consultation with one of the certified plastic surgeons.
What is the difference between FUE and FUT hair transplants?
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) are both popular hair restoration techniques. The FUE method involves extracting individual hair follicles directly from the donor site using a piercing tool. This approach is less invasive and yields zero to minimal scarring compared to the FUT technique.
In a traditional hair transplant using the FUT method, an incision is made in the scalp about 6 to 10 inches long to remove a linear strip of tissue. This piece of tissue is then cut to collect the hair follicles and sewn closed, leaving patients with a visible scar to run horizontally along the back of the scalp.
How is a FUE hair transplant performed?
FUE hair transplants are performed as an outpatient procedure in our office in our clinic under local anesthesia. This process takes about 8 hours to complete.
On the day of the procedure, your surgeon will create a specially designed hairline to restore the thinning areas to give artistic natural results. At the start of treatment, the donor area (usually the back of the scalp) will be shaved and disinfected before the local anesthetic is given. Once you feel comfortable and numb, the team of specialist, certified hair transplant technicians who have performed thousands of hair transplants in the last 15 years will perform the procedure under the supervision of your surgeon.
The individual hair follicles will be removed from the donor site through a tiny circular incision around the follicular unit using a microprocessor tool. The implants are then carefully removed from the scalp and examined under a high-power microscope to ensure that all follicles are in optimal condition during the manufacturing process. For best hair restoration results, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is injected into the treatment areas during this period. Once the follicular grafts are ready, the tiny incisions are strategically placed in the recipient area in a natural hair growth plan prior to transplantation.
You will be given instructions on how to properly care for your donor and the areas after the procedure. See the chart below for an analysis of the estimated recovery period.
Results usually appear within 4-6 months of your last treatment. Depending on the amount of hair loss, some patients may need 1-3 sessions to achieve maximum results, with each session lasting at least 6 months. Once healed, the end results of your hair restoration are permanent.
Frequently Asked Questions About Hair Transplant
Is Hair Loss Normal After a FUE Hair Transplant?
Yes, this is perfectly normal in the weeks following your procedure and is part of your normal hair cycle. The initial results are visible within 3 months as the transferred follicles begin to grow and thicken. In addition, the results from FUE hair restoration have a high permanence rate of over 90%.
Does my insurance cover hair transplant?
No, insurance does not cover this process due to its aesthetic nature. However, our practice works with third-party financing companies that can help you with payment programs.
Will I have significant scars?
No, the FUE technique shows no visible marks as your surgeon does not need to remove large strips of tissue from your scalp.
How many sessions should I see the results?
The number of sessions required depends on the type and quality of your hair. Your surgeon will discuss this with you after a formal evaluation during the consultation.
If there are any unusual or persistent side effects after hair transplant surgery, it is important to talk to a doctor right away. We also like to schedule 6-month, one-year follow-up appointments to make sure everything goes according to plan.
Remember that scalp hair does not grow at the same time. Some hairs on your head are growing now, while others are resting and / or shedding. Transplanted hairs work in the same way. The process of hair removal and donor hair transplantation generally creates a “shock” in the follicles as they enter a permanent resting phase. Most patients will shed all or most of the hair in the grafts about 6 to 8 weeks after surgery.
Hair restructuring – After hair transplantation
The process of waiting for your transplanted hair to grow can be a frustrating and stressful experience for some. It is important to remember to be patient and that the regeneration process takes a long time. Whatever the immediate, initial results, they do not necessarily indicate how successful the business was. In each person, hair regeneration occurs at a different rate. Sometimes it may look broken or as if the hair on one side of the head is fuller than the other. As the regeneration process progresses, the hair should naturally be balanced.
We do our best to help each patient manage their personal regenerative expectations. We are more than convinced that, with patience, you will be very satisfied with a fuller hair head. Contact us if you are interested in learning more about hair transplantation.
