What is Hair Root Inflammation (Folliculitis)?

Hair root inflammation is a condition that usually occurs in the hair follicles on the face, arms, upper back and lower legs.

Folliculitis is a common skin condition in which the hair follicles become inflamed. It is often caused by a bacterial or fungal infection. At first, the roots of the hair may seem like small red bumps or white-headed pimples around. Infection can spread and become crusted wound healing.

Folliculitis manifests itself with symptoms such as inflammation, redness, swelling and itching in the hair root. It can also be distributed to other areas of the hair root.

If the inflammation in the hair follicle progresses and reaches the size of the match tip, an abscess may form and cause serious problems. Folliculitis is a condition that needs attention but does not need to be alarmed.
