How Long does it Take for Hair loss to Stop

As we age, our hair tends to fall out. Normally, a person can lose up to 50 hair strands a day. However, if you are losing more than that amount, it is quite likely that you will suffer from baldness. Today, all around the world, lots of people suffer from hair loss. Without regarding age, gender, race, or anything else, it can affect anyone. It can affect the hair on the head, the facial hair, or any other part of the body. When it is excessive, it can affect one’s mental health. A person who is suffering from hair loss may feel insecure about his/her look. That insecurity and lack of confidence can affect one’s daily life, relationships, and work performance. People may tend to cover their heads with hats or scarves and even wear makeup on their scalp to cover their baldness.

What Causes Hair Loss?

When you see a doctor for hair loss, he/she will first try to find out what causes it. There are lots of factors that cause hair loss. The most common factor is genetics. Your having relatives that suffer from hair loss means that you are likely to suffer from it too. Another common factor is aging. As we age, our hair roots stop growing hair at some point. Other factors are pregnancy, childbirth, malnutrition, some diseases like alopecia areata. Also, some medications or treatments can contribute to hair loss (like chemotherapy). Our mental health is another important thing when it comes to hair loss. Being under too much stress or suffering from depression may lead to hair loss. On the other hand, some external factors like traumas or some hairstyles that pull your hair can cause you to lose hair.

How to Prevent or Stop Hair loss

In order to prevent your hair from falling out, you should know what causes it first. You can consult a dermatologist to find out the cause. The most basic precaution that you can take is to take care of your general health. In addition to that, taking care of your hair and scalp will be helpful. To achieve that, you can use hair care products with natural ingredients, and keep your hair clean. Also, eating a healthy diet that includes enough amount of iron and vitamin B will be good for your hair. There are some other easy things you can do to prevent hair loss. For example, you can use your blow-drier in a less-hot setting. When you want to color your hair, instead of doing it yourself, you can get the help of a hairdresser. You can also avoid using curling or straightening iron to avoid hair loss.

As long as the cause does not stop, hair loss will not either. So, it may take from a few months to time until you are bald. To stop hair loss, you have a few options. First of all, you can consult a dermatologist and use the medications he/she prescribed. However, if you are one of those people who do not like medications, you can use some homemade remedies. The juice of some garlic or onion is known to help hair growth. Also, some essential oils like peppermint or ginseng oil can be useful. On the other hand, on the market, there are some supplements that promote hair growth. You can use some of those but be careful about the side effects. Likewise, some vitamin pills sometimes help with the issue. If any of these solutions did not help you, you may consider having a hair transplant.

What is a Hair Transplant

Hair transplant is an operation that people have to cover the balded area on their scalp. It is a safe and well-established procedure. Most of the patients who have a hair transplant are glad that they did. To have a hair transplant, it is recommended to be older than 25. Also, you should not expect unrealistic results. It is done on an outpatient basis. During a hair transplant procedure, your own hair is transplanted to the balded area. It is taken from the back of the scalp. We call the area from which, the surgeon removes the follicles ‘donor area’. On the other hand, the area where he/she transplants them is the ‘recipient area’. When it comes to how the surgeon takes those follicles from the donor area, there are two main techniques. One is Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), and the other is Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT).

Hair transplant Techniques

As stated above, there are two main techniques for hair transplants; FUE and FUT. FUE technique is more on-trend nowadays. It involves no incision and therefore no scars. It is done on an outpatient basis, so you can go home after the procedure. After the operation, you may need to stay at home and rest for a few days. Compared to the FUT technique, it may take more time, but during an FUE session, more grafts can be transplanted. Depending on the situation, the procedure can be divided into multiple sessions.

FUT hair transplant technique, on the other hand, is a little outdated, compared to the FUE technique. During a FUT procedure, the surgeon removes a strip of skin from the donor area. He uses that to extract follicles from it. So, as you can guess, it leaves a scar. It may be cheaper than the FUE technique, but it requires a longer healing period.

After the Hair transplant

After having a hair transplant, you will have more hair on the scalp, where it is balded. You may see that your hair falls off again, but those grow back in a while. After the operation, in order to avoid complications, you should follow your surgeon’s instructions. You can also stay in touch with your surgeon on WhatsApp and video chat to let him check the situation and ask your questions if you have any. Most clinics are adapting to developing technology now, so you do not have to go back to the hospital again and again to control.
