Can stress cause hair loss?

Researchers have shown that stress or emotional anxiety is the reason why you might be losing hair. There’s usually about a 3-month delay between the stressful event or time period and your hair falling out. Unless there’s another underlying medical reason for it, hair loss only lasts at the extent of the period of your stress and anxiety. Other causes of hair loss include:

Alopecia Areata

Alopecia Areata happens as one or more isolated patches of baldness. When the body produces antibodies, it prevents hair follicles from growing hair. Thus, causes Alopecia. In some cases, this condition eases by itself. When you worry a lot about hair loss, it’s a vicious cycle. When people get anxious about hair loss, it actually causes more stress, then eventually causes more hair to fall out. The most important thing to do is to reduce stress. When you’re happier, your body and scalp are healthier, too

Medications

There are medications that can cause hair loss. But the effects can be reversed once drugs are stopped. These include some forms of blood-thinning drugs, thyroid medications, chemotherapy for cancer and contraceptive pills.

Skin Conditions

There are also skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis, that can cause temporary hair loss. When it becomes severe, it gets worse. To the point of losing hair permanently. With this, one must undergo surgery to restore hair. This is recommended once the skin condition has been successfully treated.

Pregnancy and Childbirth

Another common cause of temporary hair loss in pregnancy and/or childbirth. This is due to a delay in the normal shedding during pregnancy. In other words, the hair gets thicker during pregnancy and then returns to its normal state afterwards.

Hair Loss Due To Age

Hair loss among men usually starts when a guy turns 30 or 40. But in some cases, it can happen during their adolescent years. Though it is much less common. As women age, they lose their hair too.
