Mainly there are two methods of hair transplant widely in practice today, at Gold City Hair we perform both methods with the latest technology. These methods are:

• DHI (direct hair implantation) which is the most recent method out there. DHI allows for really high-density implantation.
• FUE (follicular unit transplantation) which is pretty much the industry standard and the most popular transplantation method as of now.

Depending on these factors, we pick the most suitable method for our patient together. Let’s have a closer look at these different types of hair transplant.

The Two Main Hair Transplant Types

The first phases of DHI and FUE are exactly the same. First, the specialist comes and anaesthetises the donor area. Then, using an electrical device with a small punch tip (.6 to .9 mm in diameter), our specialist picks follicles for extraction. Meanwhile, other technicians pick up (or harvest) the said follicles. And then, they line grafted follicles up on a gauze and put them in a solution to keep them alive. After the whole extraction process is complete, the difference between the operation starts to show.

FUE Method

In the FUE method, we insert all follicles with the tweezer-like tool we used for harvest. But in order to insert follicles, we need a slot to put them in first. That’s where the physician comes and opens canals. With a special microblade, the physician carefully opens canals around the recipient area. After the canals are a ready, technicians implant the follicles one by one.

DHI Method

In the DHI method, there is no need or use for canals. Instead, we employ a type of special tool for this, Choii pens. Usually, we employ 8-16 of them on each operation and physician continuously implants follicles one by one with these pens. While the physician is implanting, the medical team cleans, loads and prepares the next pens. The pens open the canals and insert the follicles in a single manoeuvre so the physician can implant more densely with DHI method. 

A disadvantage of DHI operations is that it requires more people to work on a single patient. That’s why DHI operations are a bit more expensive than FUE operations (hence the popularity).

Combined Operations

To take advantage of both operations, some people choose to undergo a combined operation of DHI plus FUE.
